Olinda is a small town in the Dandenong Ranges on the outskirts of Melbourne. It has an elevation of 569 metres. The weather forecast for most of the day before says that there is a high likelihood of snow falling above 500 metres. It did not materialise but we got hail instead.

Weather forecast for Sunday, 19 August 2018 for Mt Dandenong

Hail in the streets of Olinda still looks nice. It was cold at 2C-3C when I was there.

Everything looks fresh with hail lying on a street in Olinda and path way. It can slippery especially on the timber deck across the road.

Close up view of plants & leaves partially buried underneath the hail providing a nice contrast.

The colour of leaves all provides vibrance & contrast to the snow white of hail.

Near the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, you will find tall gum trees on a morning of high humidity hovering around 99%.
How did I get there? I woke up at 5am on a cold Sunday morning and took three trains & a bus to get to Olinda. That is my dedication to see the supposedly last cold blast of winter in Melbourne. Of course, if I want to see 2 metres of snow, I can always go to Mt Hotham in the Victorian high country.
